Bored with the way the fonts look in your browser?
Internet Explorer lets you change the way fonts are displayed.
For Internet Explorer 4.0x or 5.0:
1. Choose View or Tools, Internet Options. The General tab should appear first. 2. Select the Fonts button. Here you can choose the type of font you see. Make your selection and click OK. 3. To change the colors, select the Colors button from the General tab. Make your selections and hit OK. 4. When you're all done, click OK.
Tip - Save time typing
You don't have to type http:// each time you enter a new URL in Internet Explorer's Address box or Open function. For example, if a friend gives you the URL http://www.address.com, you can simply type www.address.com in the address box, and Explorer will fill in the http:// for you.
Tip - Get your IP address
If you ever need to know what that address is, here's how to find it in Windows 95:
Click on the Run option in your Start menu, enter WINIPCFG.EXE in the dialog box, and click OK. A pop-up window will appear that includes your computer's IP address. (Note from ASPkey - may not work with all ISP's)
Tip - Speedier surfing
Here's a little trick for speedier surfing! To move quickly from link to link on a Web page, just keep hitting the Tab key. As you move down the page, it will automatically scroll down.
Tip - Getting past error messages
If you're trying to reach a Web site and get an error message, keep in mind that Web addresses are frequently deleted and/or changed. Here are some tricks you can try with URLs that may help you connect to the site:
* Add or remove the www part. * Experiment with upper and lower case. * Change the file extension to .html or .htm, or remove it completely. * Working backwards from the end of the URL to the beginning, delete the file name, then check the link. If this doesn't work, delete each directory, checking the link after each deletion, until all that's left is the host name. * If none of these techniques works, try looking for a new link to the site via a search engine.
Tip - Related sites
If you're on a Web page that you find interesting or fun, you can quickly get a list of related sites. In Internet Explorer 5, simply select Tools, then Show Related Links. A list of sites will appear on the left-hand side!
